Weather Stream’s Mission
To deliver real-time weather intelligence to the global community.

Our Vision

Weather Stream was founded to tackle some of humanity’s biggest challenges by harnessing the power of remote sensing and data science. Billions still lack access to essentials like insurance or banking—institutions that underpin stable, thriving societies.

With the global demand for weather information services nearing $80B annually and growing, nations are increasingly impacted by severe weather, wildfires, drought, flooding, and other climate-related threats. Weather Stream empowers smarter decisions in the face of rising uncertainty.

A big vision in a changing world.

Our goal is a future where businesses, governments, and communities are more aligned with the natural world. We create new ways to manage risk, adapt to extreme weather, and build resilience.

We pursue this work through sustainable business practices, a commitment to technological excellence, and open collaboration. We share data with academic researchers, support global modeling efforts, and give back wherever we can.

Our offerings include commercializing weather data from the GEMS satellite constellation and platforms like WeatherRecord and WeatherLock. We innovate where no solutions exist, and partner where others have already made meaningful progress.

We are also deeply invested in our people. Our culture thrives on innovation, transparency, and global collaboration. We believe in giving first, acting with purpose, and building a better future—together.

Founded in 2015, we believe that every photon counts.

We started out as Orbital MicroSystems, using one room and a few folding tables at the University of Colorado Center for Environmental Technology in 2015.

Now known as Weather Stream, we’re on a mission to reduce the costs of satellite meteorology while enabling improved global weather forecasting by commercializing miniaturized millimeter wave radiometer technology.

The mission continues to focus on the development and manufacturing of the Global Environmental Monitoring System (GEMS) family of microwave radiometer instruments. The GEMS pathfinder mission was the first commercial mission and only commercial passive microwave radiometer in space as a satellite based data service.

We are focused on the development of multiple microwave radiometer instruments for ground, air, and space based applications. We have also provided custom radiometer calibration hardware to Ball Aerospace for the Department of Defense’s Weather Satellite Follow-on – Microwave program and we are currently developing a custom calibration solution for NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer mission (EZIE).

We’ve also worked with NASA on the Atmosphere Observing System, having recently been awarded a Phase A contract to develop a unique radiometer  for the mission.  NASA’s Earth System Observatory mission focused on Aerosols, Clouds, Convection and Precipitation science.

We nerd out on science like it’s our job.
(Because actually? It is).

Locations

Boulder, CO

Boulder, Colorado is internationally known for its rich space engineering and environmental science research communities and key industry participants.

Our world-class team in Boulder builds, tests, and integrates our instruments which form the core of our products.  Nestled along the Flat Irons, our Boulder HQ is the perfect location for highly skilled professionals who aim to make a real impact.

Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

Edinburgh is our hub for data science and commercial operations in the UK.

Scotland is home to vibrant space industry and remote sensing research. We have worked closely with the University of Edinburgh, utilizing their expertise to address the growing weather and climate data market. With the stunning Scottish Highlands on the doorstep, Edinburgh is a natural choice for our home away from home.

Coimbra, Portugal

Weather Stream Lda has been operating in Portugal since 2022. We have worked with a number of Portuguese space related agencies. The Portuguese Space Agency is directing space policy in Portugal, and they have more than 20 years of participation in ESA’s space exploration missions. We have worked for several years with the University of Coimbra and their remote sensing and data analytics groups. Portugal offers a growing space ecosystem and is an excellent gateway to the entire EU market.
